South Padre

Geography:
34 mile long island at the southern-most tip of Texas. The Island is ½ mile wide at its widest point. South Padre Island is 2.5 miles off of the coast of the mainland at Port Isabel.

Climate:
Sub-tropical, semi-arid with mild, dry winters and warm, humid summers.

Recreational Activities:
The Island offers year-round bay fishing opportunities. Surf and offshore fishing are also available during the summer and fall months. South Padre Island is a major windsurfing destination and has been named one of the top ten wind surfing spots in the world. Other water sports include surfing, diving, sailing, parasailing, jet skiing, and a host of nature/dolphin watch activities. Some other popular Island activities include shelling, birding, tennis, shopping, horseback riding, mini golf, golf, bicycling, jogging kite flying, and sand castle building.

Mexico:
Matamoros, Mexico is just 30 minutes from the Island. Tours and tour guides are available on the Island.
